Why Micromodular Cabinets Are Used in Data Center? How to assure data room of its safety performance is very important since it is a critical place.Modularized data room is an inevitable choice in the process of data room advancing.

Modularized data room is divide a large-size data center into several isolated areas (independent modules), each of which the scale of construction, power load and resources allocated are designed and configured as per a unified standard. With the IT equipment demand continuously expanding, the existing data centers can be quickly built or copied by ceaselessly adding independent modules, which are configurable on demand.

Nowadays, the public traffic, communication and taxation sectors have built their own data centers, which are provided with inflexible resources and applications. The conventional solution to address the equipment overload happening in a sector is expanding the existing device capacity. When the cloud computing data center is deployed, where resources and applications are sharable and distributable in a dynamic manner, the overload problem in a sector may be overcome by sharing other sector’s idle resources, without needing additional devices.Compared to traditional data room, the modularized data room that is based on cloud computing devices and applications can lower the hardware cost and maintenance cost 40% or more, reduce energy consumption 20% or more by improving the rate of equipment utilization, thus significantly decreasing the IT construction cost for governmental agencies and enterprises.

5 Advantages of Modularized Data Room:

1、Intelligence & High Density

With the social development, the amount of information rapidly grows and the density of data center is increasingly high.In the past, data centers are arranged in a decentralized and miniaturized way; while in the future, large-size data centers are increasingly clustered and the heat density of single cabinets is increasingly high as big data, cloud computing emerge. The modularized data center is an excellent cloud computing solution, including cloud-based IT devices like servers, storage devices and networks.Making use of cloud computing oriented customizable high-performance servers, utilizing a smart cloud computing operation/management platform, this solution is capable of achieving unified management, deployment, supervision and backup of data center resources.

The underfloor air supply mode is adopted for the traditional data center, every cabinet of which is equipped with 1-2 air outlets, each of which air velocity is at 500-800m3/h. According to calculation based on the air supply/air return temperature difference at 12℃, the max. refrigerating capacity of every cabinet air conditioner is 3-5kW, which is unable to address the heat dissipation caused by high-density servers, difficult to meet the heat dissipating demand of the single cabinet of 5kW or above.

The line-between air conditioner that is applied in the modularized data center is characterized by horizontal air supply in vicinity, enclosed cooling/heating channels, and no mutual interference caused between air supply & air return within a small range. Taking every line-between air conditioner and several cabinets in vicinity as a cooling unit, it significantly improves the refrigerating efficiency. Furthermore, by directly delivering the cooling capacity to server cabinets based on point-to-point precision cooling, it makes the cooling capacity available for high-density data centers, achieving the maximum single cabinet power up to 10kW.

2、Deployment on Demand & Flexible Expansion

In China where IT devices demand is rising up and the data center business rapidly expands, data centers that were built and put into use 1 or 2 years ago are now difficult to satisfy the increasing demand due to their limited configuration. Traditional data centers have no room reserved for expansion at late phases, giving rise to repeated construction and huge investment wastes.By contrast, the modularized data center is an integrated one that is composed  of power devices in modular design, like UPS, refrigerating system, rack and remote monitoring system, all the modules of which are combinable via simple interfaces. No matter at what business scale, and engaged in which industries, a business may customize the modular data center in line with its demand, and gradually expand the scale of data center to adapt to more IT demand. In the future, an enterprise is expected to multiply its calculation capabilities, without any influence caused on the functionality or design of the existing data center. This is its charisma.

3、Shorter Construction Time

Several months, or even several years are usually needed to establish a traditional data center from planning to completion of construction, which is in an irreconcilable conflict with rapid upgrading cycle of IT devices. The phenomena often occurs that a traditional data center which was built and put into use through long time of construction cycle comes not to meet the latest requirement on IT devices.

When compared to the newly built or expanded traditional data centers, the modularized data center enjoys advantages, like saved floor area and short deployment time, only a dozen of weeks needed from design to official deployment of applications. This is on one hand because lots of power infrastructure have been integrated inside it, only corresponding IT devices are required to be added before it is put into operation; one the other hand because the modular design is beneficial to site selection, which is not difficult.  Selectable are office buildings, warehouses or even parking lots to where water- and power- supply, Internet are accessible, which is definitely good news for CIO always pressed for progress.

Integrating the power distribution system, cooling system, monitoring system, cabinet and its architecture system including cabinet, supports, canopies, cable trays and cooling channel, the modularized data center is a complete one combining relevant modules through simple interfaces.

4、Lower Operation Cost

The modularized data center is also helpful for reasonable control over IT costs. With cloud computing and Internet application increasingly developing, many enterprises purchase servers and storage devices to meet the increasing demand of data storage, push energy demand and cost up to an unprecedented level. The problem confronted with the data center managers is its energy consumption cost increasingly higher than the cost of hardware purchase.

By using the customizable and modularized design, the modular data center helps users reduce costs at the initial stage, control energy consumption through centralized management on IT infrastructure at the later operation stage. Furthermore, it also helps users improve space/equipment utilization rate, reduces unnecessary manpower consumption, thus posing an effective control over its integrated operation cost.

5、Green & Energy Saving

While the traditional data center concerns about the temperature of the physical data room, which is 23±1℃ as required in design standards, the modular data center pays attention to the inlet temperature of the IT device, rather than concerns about the temperature of the physical data room. Within the temperature range insuring servers normal working, it may reduce the energy consumption of refrigerating system by raising air inlet temperature, with the cooling capacity effectively applied in IT devices, significantly lowering energy consumption of air conditioner, and improving its cooling efficiency.

While traditional data centers are encumbered by heavy mixture of cooling/heating air, uneven temperature gradients, local hotspots clustered and high energy consumption, the modular data center can effectively isolate cooling/heating channels, avoid ineffective heat exchange by using enclosed channels; its line-between air conditioner can greatly improve its energy efficiency through point-to-point accuracy cooling.

On the basis of aforesaid 5 advantages, since global large-size data centers raise increasingly high requirements on construction cycle, establishment cost, operation/maintenance expenses, expansion flexibility, high intensity, intelligence and low energy consumption, the modularized data center as the new generation data center solution represents an inevitable trend in the future.
